How Does Acupuncture Work for Mild Closed Head Injury?
Acupuncture causes an increase in local blood flow with a resulting increase in nutrients and immune cells. These are the ingredients for healing. There is also evidence that acupuncture tends to have a balancing effect on brain chemistry, hormone levels, and immune cell function and have a beneficial effect on the healing of the brain and /or nerves after injuries. Because the brain controls everything in the body, a balanced brain should allow for more effective healing.
Course of treatment
There are 15 sessions in one course of treatment (This varies for individuals). For difficult, complex or long standing conditions several groups of the 15 sessions may be recommended. It is best to begin treatments twice a week initially, then gradually change to once a week, and then decrease to every two weeks, based on each individual patient’s situation. It is recommended to begin the acupuncture treatments as soon as possible after the injury. Chinese herbs work synergistically with acupuncture.
